Culpeper Renaissance, Inc. (CRI) is a member of the Virginia
Main Street program. The main street program was organized by
the National
Trust for Historic Preservation to help revitalize the economic
vitality of downtown commercial districts using the National
Main Street Center's successful Main Street Approach.
The results have been remarkable - new businesses are opening,
and investors are putting their money into once vacant buildings;
tourists are visiting new shops and restaurants and residents are
enjoying renewed community pride. Thousands of jobs have been
created and more than $141 million in private money has been
invested in Virginia's main Street Approach:
Enhance the visual quality of downtown
by addressing all design elements to create an appealing environment.
Culpeper's downtown has a wealth of historic buildings and an eclectic array of
architectural styles. Davis Street and the Depot has been
cleaned up. Deteriorating buildings have been renovated
and the Depot has been rehabilitated and serves as Culpeper's
Visitor's Center and Conference Facility. Improved signage,
hanging baskets, period street lights and seasonal banners
make downtown functional and attractive.
Create and market a positive image based on the unique attributes
of our downtown. CRI works to educate the community on why downtown
revitalization makes economic sense, to correct misconceptions of
downtown safety, and utilizes all forms of media to spread the
word about exciting things that happen downtown. CRI strives to
ensure that downtown Culpeper is the center of the community for
fun events and activities.
Strengthen downtown's existing economic assets and find new uses
for old buildings. Who shops downtown?
Who would benefit from
living downtown? What kinds of economic incentives will trigger
investment? Questions like these are answered through market
research allowing CRI to help existing businesses to become more
successful and recruit new businesses to create a thriving
commercial district.
Establish consensus and cooperation by building effective partnerships
among all downtown stakeholders and the citizens of Culpeper.
Successful downtown revitalization requires many groups and a broad
base of community support all working together to realize the vision
created in our Downtown Master Plan. Join a CRI committee and be part
of our efforts to revitalize downtown Culpeper.
